An Ode to Blush Pink
Growing up, I could never make up my mind on what my favourite colour was. I remember my first ever favourite colour being green because frogs were my favourite animal (I was a peculiar child and they intrigued me for some reason!), then it was red because that was the colour of my primary school sports faction. Eventually, whenever someone would ask, I settled on pink and purple, and it always bummed me out that my sister got to be the pink Power Ranger because they're both named Kimberly (my sister is Kymberley, to be exact), while I was stuck being the yellow one!
Though I've always been enamoured by the soft, muted tones of blush pink in particular, when PANTONE 13-1530 Rose Quartz was made Colour of the Year in 2016, a trend was sparked and now the pretty pink hue can be found in everything from beauty, to fashion and even homewares, much to my delight. It's a colour that's cute, fun and playful, yet I think it can exude sophistication too. Becoming a firm staple in my personal style colour palette, today's post is all about the pops of blush pink you'll find in my beauty stash, my wardrobe and around my home; a dedication to everyone's new favourite colour.
You won't ever see me wearing true blush pink tones in my makeup unless it's more muted, brown and nude, though I do have some pretty-in-pink packaged products in the colour. Starting off with Glossier, I'm sure everyone would agree with me when I say they have some of the dreamiest branding ever. I mean, a minimalistic aesthetic with blush pink as a feature colour, how can you go wrong? The Balm Dotcom and Priming Moisturiser are the cutest little tubes ever, while Priming Moisturiser Rich adorned with its blush pink lid was just made for flatlays. Dior even have some adorably pink products too, including the Dior Addict Lip Glow and Dior Addict Lip Maximiser High Volume Lip Plumper. The Lip Glow is packaged in pink, while the gloss itself of the Lip Plumper is blush pink in colour. It does, however, go on clear for a beautiful sheen and fullness to the lips.
The YSL Touche Éclat Blur Perfector and Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist Intense (sadly, limited edition) are two of the most stunning products I own. I was definitely persuaded by the packaging when I bought these, but don't lie and tell me that you wouldn't have been! I've never been that big a fan of gold (it doesn't really suit my yellow-toned skin), but when combined with blush pink? I die. Way too beautiful to be tucked away, they're both sat on top my dressing table and once I've used them up, I'll definitely still be keeping them around for decorative purposes.
The one blush pink coloured beauty product I do wear is the Nails Inc Perfect Pink Nail Polish in Petticoat Lane. I randomly spotted this colour while browsing around David Jones during my lunch break and for the duration of that time, I couldn't get it out of my mind! It was a little bit of a spontaneous purchase, but the first time I wore this on my nails, I couldn't stop staring at them. It's such a cute pop of colour and I'm a big fan of subdued, pastel hues.
There are four blush pink clothing items in my wardrobe; the All About Eve Easy Rider Bomber Jacket, the Pare Basic June Top, Pare Basic Shelby Skirt (these three were also featured in my What I Wore in Summer post) and then there's my Mink Pink Celestial Cami. I'm absolutely smitten with all four pieces and I'm hoping to find a nice blush pink jumper this autumn/winter season. I'll sadly be retiring my Shelby Skirt until next spring/summer (I'm not sure if it'd look good with stockings), but I'll definitely still be getting use out of my bomber jacket and June Top as they're lovely trans-seasonal pieces.
In accessories, I have a little dusty blush pink wallet from Country Road, which was love at first sight when I bought it two years ago. Although I have a bigger wallet for everyday use, my Country Road wallet comes in handy for nights out when I'm carrying a smaller bag. It has plenty of room for cards and cash, plus a zip up section for coins, which is perfect for when you need more than just a card holder. Although I don't mind a bit of gold in my beauty products and homewares, I'm definitely a silver girl through and through when it comes to my fashion items and I love that this wallet has silver hardware too.
I can't resist anything blush pink when it comes to homewares! My bedroom colour palette is white, blush pink and grey, and if I had my own home, those would probably be the only colours you'd see throughout the other rooms too.
If you live in Australia, you'll be well aware that Kmart have been absolutely crushing it with their homewares. It's so good, it doesn't even look like Kmart! I'm sure the majority of my fellow Aussies also own the Zsa Zsa Faux Fur Cushion, which is an absolute bargain at a mere $12. Not only is the colour of the cushion beautifully dreamy, but it's so soft and I love laying against it if I'm just at home chilling out on my bed. On the other end of the spectrum, my other cushion is the Vue Aria Lounge Cushion (no longer available) from Myer. I love the geometric print combined with blush pink, silver, grey and white as it ties in perfectly with my bedroom colour theme. My bed has been through quite a few cushion changes in the past couple of years, but now I can say it's perfect! I might get some blush pink European pillows for a bit more of an accent later down the track though.
I love collecting mugs. I'd probably own more if I had the space, but the two blush pink ones I have are the Robert Gordon Organic Swatch Mug in Chantilly Pink and the IKEA Dinera Mug. As soon as I spotted my good friend, Jennifer, with the Robert Gordon mug, I immediately had to purchase one for myself because it was just too cute. It's the biggest mug I own and is the perfect size for an afternoon cup of tea. My IKEA mug was purchased when my friends and I took a spontaneous trip there because you can't go to IKEA and not buy anything. It's just not possible. In other things you drink from, I also own the BKR Glass Water Bottle in Bubble. I'd been eyeing up one of these water bottles for over a year until I finally bought one and even though it's a little on the pricey side for what it is, they're of high quality and come in a load of cute, fun colours.
The blush pink theme continues onto my desk in the form of a recycled Ladurée Candle jar that I repurposed into a pen holder. It resides next to my Glossier Balm Dotcom and I'm absolutely in love with that little corner of my desk. I know lots of people enjoy switching up their spaces, but once I find something I like, I tend to stick with it. I mentioned earlier that the YSL Touche Éclat Blur Perfector and Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist Intense serve as decorative pieces on my dressing table, but I also have a beautiful rose quartz stone that resides on top of it too. More than the colour, I love what rose quartz represents as a crystal and it was a gift to myself while I was mending my then broken heart. I bought it from the Paddington Markets in Sydney when I was living there four years ago.
Lastly, it is my absolute dream in life to own the West Elm Metal Frame Upholstered Chair in Dusty Blush. Have you ever even seen a more beautiful piece of furniture?
Being a beauty blogger and a lover of stationery seems to go hand-in-hand. The highlight of starting a new school year every February was always new stationery supplies! Nowadays, I have quite the substantial collection of pens and notebooks, one of my favourite notebooks being this blush pink one from Kikki K. I decided to jump on board the bullet journal bandwagon this year and one of the pens I use with it is the Tombow Dual Brush Pen in #772 Blush. I love the little pops of pink throughout my journal. Lastly, I also have some MT Masking Tape Washi Tape in Rose Pink. Admittedly, I'm still trying to find an actual use for my Washi Tape, but you know me, I can't resist anything blush pink!
What are some of your favourite blush pink possessions?
