My favourite thing about blogging is being creative. Creativity is never stagnant and is constantly evolving and with that, can come a wide range of emotions - both good and bad. Those negative feelings of dissatisfaction and self-comparison thankfully never last long, but neither do those happy and proud feelings, as sooner or later, I'll find myself wanting to change things up and thinking of how I can improve. Every year, I say that I want to blog more often and every year, it never happens, so I've now come to accept that I'm just far too much of a perfectionist and that paying the bills has unfortunately, got to come first. My perfectionism is both a strength and weakness of mine, but it's important to me that my posts meet my high (and often unrealistic) expectations and reflect the best of my ability before I hit publish. Although sporadic, I am pretty content with the quality of my posts at the moment, though I have been thinking of a general blog refresh for quite some time now. This blog is my happy place, a labour of love and I want this online space of mine to be the best that I can make it. With that, I've made myself a blog to do list and I thought I'd share with you what's on it and what you can expect from Like Neon Love in the very near future.
Take a new profile picture
I've had the same profile picture across my social media channels for well over a year now and I'm so bored of looking at my face! It's never been something I update regularly because it's the most exhausting thing ever trying to take a decent picture of yourself and as I always say, I'm better behind the camera than in front of it! It's not that I'm not happy with the way I look, but even when I'm having a cute day, the camera just doesn't always translate what you see in the mirror! I'm planning on getting my haircut next month and this should hopefully inspire me to spend some time getting a nice new photo of myself.
Take photos for my 'About Me' page and Twitter header
It's been a while since I've done anything with my About Me page and my Twitter header hasn't changed in quite some time too. Rather than using photos I've recycled from old blog posts, I want to take specific photos for these things, and my plan is to photograph a new photo of myself, as well as my favourite beauty products on my dressing table (similar to my current Twitter header). It's easy enough, I just haven't got around to it yet as I struggle to get good lighting in winter for blog posts, let alone any other photos for my blog. I'm going to try and get this done next month, if not, in spring, which is just right around the corner. Finally!
Sort through my Bloglovin' Loves and organise them into Collections
I think it was sometime early this year that Bloglovin' introduced Collections, so you could organise the blog posts you like into categories. At first, I didn't care or bother with it, but now I've started to realise how handy this really is. If you're looking for a little burst of inspiration or are wanting to reference back to blog posts to read again, it'll be much easier to find in these categories, as opposed to scrolling away endlessly. During my Bloglovin' sort out, it'll also be good to go through my Loves, unsaving ones I no longer enjoy and the ones which have dead links. We all know I'm quite the Monica Geller and that I love me some organisation.
Create a 'Wishlist' page
Perhaps it's the nosey person in me who loves room tours and makeup collection videos, but I also love seeing what's on people's wishlists. Some of my friends and even my sister and I share each other's wishlists on Wunderlist and it's really fun to see what we're all lusting after! I've seen a few other bloggers include wishlists on their blogs and I think it's a really neat element. I don't plan on making money from this by linking to products with affiliate links, I just think it'll be a nice new feature on my blog that could be sort of be interesting. Obviously, there'll be beauty products on my wishlist, but I also plan on including some fashion-y items and perhaps even some homewares, so it'll be cool to give you guys an insight into the kind of things I like... and sometimes even find myself dreaming of!
Create a new header logo
I love my current header, but I'm wanting to switch things up ever so slightly. I still love calligraphic typography, though this time I'm after something a little more undone and effortless, if that makes any sense at all. I spent some time scrolling through Instagram looking at different typography styles, screenshotting what I like, and I'm now in the very early stages of getting a new header designed for me! The letterer is someone whose work I absolutely adore and have been following for a few years now, so I'm really excited and really looking forward to the change!
Get into Pinterest
I can barely keep up with the social media platforms I'm already on (remember that one time I uploaded a YouTube video and then never did anything with my channel ever again?!), so joining Pinterest seems like a terrible idea (as if I need more ways to waste my time too!), but sometimes I feel like I need another visual creative outlet as I just don't really care about Instagram anymore. Despite the content not changing and still being as beautiful as ever, the new algorithm makes it so much less inspiring and engaging. I can't exactly explain why, but I think we can all agree when I say that Instagram just isn't the same anymore. When I do occasionally update, I've now started linking my Instagram posts to Twitter as it's probably my favourite platform and the one I check the most. I really enjoy seeing other people's Instagram posts on Twitter too. Anyway, getting into Pinterest is still up in the air as I already have Tumblr, but do let me know your thoughts and if you think it's worth it. It could be another fun way of engaging with people and potentially bringing some traffic to my blog.
Do you guys have any changes or updates lined up for your blog?
