Hey, I'm Tenneil

I live in Perth, Australia, and this is my creative outlet where I blog about beauty, my life and everything in between. I enjoy the '80s, the '90s and anything French, and some of my favourite things in life include music,  film, summer and a nice cup of tea.

What's in My Makeup Bag

What's in My Makeup Bag

I don't know about you guys, but I love peering into the contents of my friends' makeup bags. It's fun to be a little nosey and even kind of interesting to see what we all consider to be our everyday "essentials". There are some girls who are like Mary Poppins and practically carry their entire makeup collection with them, and then there are others, like me, who take the more pared back approach... at least I think I do, anyway! For you fellow nosy folk, here's a rundown of the things I carry around in my makeup bag on a day-to-day basis.

My makeup bag is from Urban Outfitters, though it's unfortunately sold out now. I bought it at the end of last year after I'd been searching forever for a plain black one with silver hardware. You'd think such a basic accessory would be easy to come across, but no! All of them were either miles too big, too expensive or had gold hardware. I never like to settle when it comes to purchases because when you do find the one, you always regret it!

I actually don't carry around a lot of makeup in my makeup bag. With the exception of my lips, I'm not one to touch up my makeup when I'm out and about. I don't get oily throughout the day and for the most part, my makeup stays in place pretty well, so there's just no need. On nights out, I used to carry concealer with me, but I don't go to the club anymore where it's all gross and sweaty. I'm all about that homebody life now!

The makeup I do carry around is just an assortment of lip products, the first one being the Aesop Protective Lip Balm. I'd been after a travel-friendly lip balm for the longest time as I didn't want anything I had to apply with my fingers, and I surprisingly found it difficult to find a good quality standard twist up lip balm. I finally discovered this Aesop one a couple of weeks ago and I'm loving it. It doesn't look at all glossy on the lips, so it's still great to wear underneath matte lipsticks and it even contains SPF 30. Another lip balm I keep in my bag is the Clarins Instant Light Lip Balm Perfector in Rosewood. Unlike the Aesop offering, this one is glossy and I like to wear this when I can't be bothered with lipstick. It has a slight tint of colour, but isn't one you need to worry about touching up when you're keeping things fuss-free. These are the only two lip products that are in my bag at all times and I'll change up the rest depending on what I'm wearing for that particular day. At the moment, I'm absolutely loving the combination of the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk and MAC Lipstick in Velvet Teddy. They look so stunning paired together! I have to keep reminding myself to give my other lip products some love. Most nights, I'll clear out my makeup bag as I don't like to let the lip products build up in there. I'm too much of a Monica for that!

When I'm touching up my lips on the go, I do so using my Chanel compact mirror. I've had it for years and I always feel so posh whipping this out! Sure, a little extravagant, but it's so pretty and I was lucky enough to be able to buy this cheaply from a friend who didn't want it anymore. It has both a regular mirror and a magnified mirror, which is convenient too. When you're out and about, it makes sense to carry around hand sanitiser and my personal favourite is the Aesop Resurrection Rinse-Free Hand Wash. I just love the smell of this stuff and though I'm not too precious about always sanitising my hands (people tend to forget that germs can actually help build up your immune system!), it's one of those things that's always good to have on you.

I hate the feeling of dry hands, so to combat this, I have the Jurlique Rose Hand Cream. My Caudalie Hand and Nail Cream just ran out and I'm so glad I can use my Jurlique one now as I just love the smell of roses. I don't always need hand cream during the warmer months, but now that we're approaching winter, it's a necessity for me. I'm not one to get stressed or anxious easily, but occasionally, I'll feel a little nauseous on transport (particularly the tram), so the Origins Peace of Mind On-the-Spot Relief comes in handy then. Containing a calming blend of peppermint, rosemary, eucalyptus and basil, the fragrance is uplifting and really soothes the senses. I also have with me the Caudalie Beauty Elixir, which is particularly refreshing in the summer and it's something I love always having on me. The Beauty Elixir is amazing to use during overseas flights too. Domestic flights are short and sweet, but when you've been travelling for hours and haven't showered for quite some time, the Caudalie Beauty Elixir will instantly make you feel a little more fresh and clean.

The fragrance I keep in my bag is the Elizabeth and James Nirvana White Mini Rollerball. It's just the cutest and smells like the most beautiful field of flowers. Having a hair tie on you at all times is an absolute necessity, especially when your hair is as frizz-prone as mine. When my hair is annoying me, I just chuck it all up in a ponytail and then I'm free to merrily go about my day again!

When it comes to non-beauty bits, I always have to have a packet of tissues on me. More than for my nose, I use them to wipe makeup swatches off my hands when I'm browsing around the shops and there's no makeup remover around. I've even contemplated carrying around a mini bottle of Bioderma with me! Band-Aids and painkillers are with me at all times for those emergency situations and I've learnt from those cases where I didn't have them around. Plus, it's nice to come to the rescue when other people need them too. I bought this cute little Band-Aid pouch from Muji and I carry around the Panadol Rapid Caplets Handipak. There's also a couple of pads, panty liners and tampons (a girl's got to have options!) in here, but we all know what those look like!

Lastly, I also keep my iPod in my makeup bag. It makes it easier to find in my Longchamp Le Pliage Néo Shopping Bag, plus, this makeup bag comes with a handy little hole in the corner to loop your earphones into. As I don't stream music, I have a separate music device so it doesn't take up all the storage on my phone. It makes me so sad they don't make the iPod Classics anymore!
