What a week! I've been working some pretty brutal hours lately, so this post is coming to you in real time as opposed to scheduled. I took my blog photos a week in advance knowing ahead of time I'd be busy, but I wasn't able to get the actual writing part done as I kept falling asleep with my laptop on me! Today, I have a day off and I am doing nothing but chilling out in my dressing gown. Bliss.
You can really feel the change in weather in May and I can't say that I'm a fan of the month, to be honest. I leave the house in the dark and I come home in the dark, and as I've been confined to the walls of work all day everyday, it's so nice to see the daylight! The air feels icy cold and the windows are all misty, but at least the sky is blue and the sun is shining! As we'll officially be in winter as of tomorrow, my dressing gown, electric blanket and copious amounts of tea are going to be my saviours for the next three months. Can we just skip to September already?
I made two very exciting purchases this month! First, my new baby, the Canon EOS M10 camera! I'd been after a high quality compact camera for the longest time and I decided on this one because I've always used Canon cameras and I can also interchange lenses with my Canon DSLR. There's still a couple of lenses I want to buy for it, but so far, I'm over the moon and can't wait to take it out and about. It's going to be so much easier than lugging around my DSLR! My other exciting purchase is the Byredo Bal d'Afrique EDP. I did have another Byredo perfume, the 1996 EDP, but I decided to sell it as it was a bit too strong for me. I loved it on my first few wears, but I think it was one of those scents that smelt better in-store than when I took it home. I'm glad the perfume nor my money went to waste and now I have a beautiful Byredo bottle that I absolutely adore! I've finally found the Byredo fragrance that's the one for me.
There were some killer albums released in May. First and foremost, Radiohead! Kid A will probably always be my favourite album, but their latest offering, A Moon Shaped Pool, is wonderful and I'm especially a fan of the track, Daydreaming. I only really properly got into them during the previous album release of The King of Limbs back in 2011 and I think their music has always been really consistent over the years.
Flume's sophomore release, Skin, had some really catchy tracks, though I have to say his first self-titled release was more my jam. The two album standouts for me this month were both debut releases - U by Tourist and Yoncalla by Yumi Zouma. U is full of fun, dancey tunes and was such an uplifting album to get me through the hellish work week I'd had! As for Yoncalla, it beyond exceeded the expectations I had for this album. I was absolutely obsessed with Yumi Zouma's EPs and couldn't wait for them to finally release a full-length. These dreamy pop tunes will instantly lift your spirits and with super chilled out vibes, Yoncalla is best listened while doing absolutely nothing.
I saw M83 live earlier in the month with a couple of mates who had flown over from Perth for the gig. It was such a great night! We got burgers before the show and even snuck drinks in. They're too expensive to buy at venues and waiting in line is boring! We had a really great view of the stage and the lighting was absolutely spectacular, though we were all deeply disappointed that they didn't come back for an encore. Some people even started booing! I have no idea what happened there, but nevertheless, I really enjoyed the show... up until the end! The gig felt like a throwback to 2008 when I first got into his music (Saturdays=Youth is one of the best albums ever!) and it was so much fun to hear those songs I've loved for so long live again.
Film and television
The Frasier obsession continues! I can't remember the last time I binge-watched a show so bad, but I powered through seasons 6-8 because I needed to see my second favourite OTP, Niles and Daphne (Ross and Rachel are my first, obviously), FINALLY get together. I literally couldn't stop watching! Don't you just love the anticipation of a will-they-or-won't-they couple? It makes me want to die and I love it so much. I'm up to season 10 now and while I admittedly think the show has lost some of its spark now that Niles and Daphne are together (apparently the writers changed too, so that could be why, also), I still can't get over how god damn good this show is. Season 11 is the last and I'm taking it slow now because I honestly don't know what I'm going to do with my life once it's all over. Must. Savour. Every. Last. Episode!
