My Bedside Table
I've been living in my Melbourne apartment for well over a year now, yet it's only just come to my attention that I haven't showed you much of my favourite place in the entire world, my bedroom. I'm only living in a rental and can't afford to do up the whole place nicely, but I do take a lot of pride in my bedroom. Perhaps it's because I'm an introvert and more of a homebody these days, but there's a real sense of joy in being surrounded by all your beautiful possessions and the things that embody you as a person. Last year, I showed you through my makeup Muji drawers and in more little snippets around my room, today I'm going to show you my bedside table.
Between beauty products and candles, there's really not much else to my bedside table, but I really love the way I've styled it and upcycled this super basic piece of IKEA furniture. My bedside table is the LACK Side Table and out of my desk, shelving unit and dressing table, can you believe this was the most confusing for me to put together?! I won't go into it, but yes, I am an idiot. I did a little DIY and covered the top with marble vinyl adhesive from eBay and it turned a $20 piece of furniture into something quite chic, I think! Whenever my blog photos have been taken against a marble background, this is also what I use.
I guess the first and foremost thing to reside upon my bedside table is my beautiful copper lamp from Freedom. Prior to this, I had a really lovely Eiffel Tower lamp, but after using it for a few years, I started to grow a little bored of it. Like every other beauty blogger here, I'm totally digging the copper trend and the lamp has definitely become a real focal point in my room. It's always good to have tissues handy and I keep mine in this cute Scandinavian-inspired wooden tissue box from Etsy. I was originally going to paint it white and copper, but then I got the lamp and didn't want to overkill it with the copper. The wood finish has now grown on me and I don't feel the need to paint it at all - it all kind of fits in with the white/warm tones colour scheme I have going on here.
I like to keep an assortment of beauty products on my bedside table. Some are seasonal, others I get quite regular use out of. Nuxe Rêve de Miel is my go-to nighttime lip balm as it's luxuriously thick with tiny little exfoliating particles. I do find it a little too rich for daytime use, but with a coat of this in the evenings, I wake up with the softest lips, ready for my lip colour of choice in the morning. The Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm is the best hand cream I've ever used and while I don't use it all too often during spring and summer, I know I'll be getting a lot more use of it now during the colder seasons. I tend to get really dry elbows too and this is the only product that really softens and moisturises them. Its zingy, herbal scent is really refreshing and uplifting too.
I keep my bottle of Caudalie Divine Oil by my bedside as my moisturiser. With a really deep, almost kind of sensual fragrance, it's perfect for evening use. The two other Caudalie products on my beside table are the Beauty Elixir and Grape Water, though they're reserved for the warmer months as a little refresher during those hot and balmy summer nights. I use my Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant on little cuts, cat scratches and on my cuticles before bed, or even as a lip balm when I feel like mixing things up! It's a great little all-rounder, this one. I'll use the This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray on those nights I can't stop tossing and turning. Funnily enough, I tend to not be able to sleep properly when I've got an early morning start because I'm constantly overthinking and worrying about waking up so early! I wouldn't say this stuff actually helps you fall asleep, but the fragrance is calming and relaxing, and makes for a really nice pamper product. Lastly, I've got a miniature bottle of Jo Malone Red Roses Cologne, which I like to keep on my bedside as decoration because it's so cute and pretty.
In the evenings when I'm settling down for the night, I like to set the mood. If I'm blogging in bed or reading, I'll turn on my copper lamp, which provides the most light, but if I'm simply watching a movie or a TV show, I'll turn on my fairy lights. It took me ages to find the perfect set of fairy lights, but I finally found these little dainty ones from a Melbourne shop called Down to the Woods. I don't burn my candles all the time - partly because they're so expensive and I want to preserve them for as long as possible, partly because I simply forget! Currently residing on my bedside table is my Diptyque Baies Candle, housed by my H&M bell jar, and my Byredo Gingembre Candle, which was limited edition during Christmas 2014. I also keep on top my Rune Small Hurricane Candle from Country Road, but like my Jo Malone Cologne, it's more so a decorative piece. My Diptyque Wick Trimmer is on hand whenever I choose to light a candle, though I keep my matches under my bed because they aren't so aesthetically pleasing! I really want some fancy Jo Malone ones!
Before I hit the hay, I'll plug in my phone, set my alarm (or not, if I'm lucky!) and leave it to charge overnight. I've also just started to get back into my Harry Potter reading after a couple of months of awful neglect. It's terrible that after all this time I'm still only up to the second book, but hey, it's still a lot more reading than I used to do! Sometimes I'll also have a cup of tea because its warmth is really soothing and relaxing, and also because I am never not drinking green tea. I bought my cute cat print mug from Kikki K and the beautiful octagonal marble coaster is from another local shop called Lily and the Weasel.
I hope you all enjoyed this tour around my bedside table and little look into my evening routine. I love interior posts and I've got a few more planned for the future. I'll probably to a desk tour next!
