Feeling Spendy at Mecca
Between price hikes across Mecca Cosmetica and Sephora, products constantly out of stock and the enviable promotions of international retailers, beauty shopping in Australia is pretty dismal, to tell you the truth. It's something I've been thinking about discussing further on my blog (let me know if this is something you'd like to read), but as a beauty aficionado and my only source for the majority of brands I love, I still can't help but throw my money at Mecca. I didn't buy these things all at once (rent, you are one hell of a bitch) and in fact, a couple of these products I've had for a few months now, but that just means I can give you more in-depth reviews and I do love myself a good old-fashioned haul. Some of these products had been on my wishlist for almost a year and it was about time I welcomed them into my life.
Too Faced Love Flush Blush in Baby Love
With my Myer One rewards voucher, the first product I picked up from Mecca Pop! was the Too Faced Love Flush Blush in Baby Love. I really didn't need yet another nude blush, but as the ones I own are more on the matte/satin side (with the exception of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure, which is sheeny), I was after something a little more shimmery and sparkly and this one fit the bill perfectly. Plus, how could I not have given into that sweet Polly Pocket-esque packaging? Talk about adorable. Described as a "soft dusty nude with fine gold sparkle", the pigmentation of this blush is incredible and I like to pair this up with a stippling brush so I don't overdo it. Sometimes if I'm going matte on the eyes, I like a bit of sparkle and glow on the cheeks, and I really haven't stopped reaching for this blush since I first bought it.
Ciaté Speed Coat Fast Drying Top Coat
From Mecca Pop!, I also restocked on the Ciaté Speed Coat Fast Drying Top Coat, which I wear over the top of my Dior Gel Coat. No gel top coat has ever been as shiny or manicure-like as the Dior offering, but it's not so great at preventing chipping, which is where the Ciaté top coat comes in. Obviously, as a repurchase, I love this top coat, although it's now sadly been discontinued from Mecca. I'm not overly gutted by this as it should be pretty easy to find an anti-chipping alternative and I'll probably look into Essie once this runs out.
Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face Superscreen SPF 50+
My trusty Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face SPF 30+ Facial Sunscreen finally bit the bullet a month or so ago, so I replaced it with the Mecca Cosmetica To Save Face Superscreen SPF 50+. Us Australians need all the SPF we can get (it's oddly unsettling that it's almost May and I've barely had to use my electric blanket!), so I was excited when Mecca launched their first 50+ sunscreen last year. The product is the colour of a tinted moisturiser (which kind of had me freaking out it was off or something because I'm so used to sunscreen being white) and is ever so slightly thicker and more mattifying on the skin. It's definitely not a bad thing; in fact, I actually prefer the more matte look as sometimes all the face products (serum, moisturiser, sunscreen, primer and foundation) can feel and look a bit much. Like its predecessor, it's lightweight, neither greasy or sticky and is the sunscreen I'll always come back to.
NUDE Perfect Cleanse Omega Cleansing Jelly
I first came about the NUDE Perfect Cleanse Omega Cleansing Jelly when I received a sample of it in a Sephora US order I placed about a year ago (I used a mail forwarding service to get it shipped to Australia). It was love at first use and it had been on my wishlist ever since! Between the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser and Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel as my first step cleansers, I felt a little guilty adding yet another into my routine, but now that I have it, I'm so happy I do! It's very similar to the Oskia cleanser (perhaps why I love it so much!) in terms of consistency and the way it feels on the skin, though I'd say it's a little more lightweight and not as thick. Infused with sunflower seed oil and omegas 6 and 9, its slight fragrance is beautiful and feels really luxurious on the skin. When met with water, it turns into a creamy milk and as I love both balmy gel and milk cleansers, I really get the best of both worlds with this one.
NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Tonkin
I rarely ever impulse-buy these days, but it was pay day, I had just finished work and I was in a spendy mood! Plus, the most fun kind of products to buy are lip products. I was initially thinking of buying the NARS Lipstick in Pigalle, but when I tried it on, I wasn't completely sold, despite it being such a popular shade. I then, however, tried on the NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in Tonkin and instantly, I knew this was the one I would be taking home with me. I'd never given much thought into NARS' Pure Matte Lipstick range and for a matte lip product, I was pleasantly surprised by how creamy and comfortable it feels on the lips. The formula contains mango butter and the shade Tonkin is described as a "cinnamon plum", which translates as a neutral pinky nude on my lips. It reminds me of a less pink version of MAC's Lipstick in Mehr and has been my go-to lip colour for work recently.
Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer
I don't shop at Mecca Maxima all too often because there's no Myer concession store for me to be able to use my staff discount card. My NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, however, is on its last legs and I've been dying to try the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer that everybody keeps raving on about. The shade range leaves a lot to be desired, though despite spending a good twenty or so minutes debating over whether to get Light Warm or Light Neutral, I came out happy with my purchase (Light Neutral) and I absolutely adore this concealer. Creamy, pigmented and not at all drying, it blends beautifully into the skin and Light Neutral is perfect to wear both underneath the eyes and to cover up blemishes. Apart from the shade range, my only other gripe is with the packaging as you really have to pull at it to get the wand out. I'm always worried concealer is going to go flying everywhere!
Byredo Hand Cream in La Tulipe
My first stop in Mecca Cosmetica is always Byredo. I just love it! I'd had their ridiculously overpriced tiny tube of hand cream on my wishlist for quite some time now and as I had a few more dollars to spend in order to keep my Myer One Gold status, I decided to splurge a little. As you'd expect from the brand, the Byredo Hand Cream in La Tulipe is oh so luxurious. The scent is fresh, floral and uplifting, while the cream itself is super moisturising and really softens the skin. Also, that packaging! It looks like my blog! It's way too fancy to keep in my handbag for everyday use, but it makes the perfect companion for my desktop where the packaging won't get ruined and I can display it proudly.
