Wishful Thinking #5: Birthday Edition
Another year older, another year I still don't have my shit together. At the end of the month, I turn the grand old age of 27 and it terrifies me that I am now fast approaching my thirties. If there's one way of coping with my impending birthday woes, however, it's by treating myself! There's no perfect day than your birthday to indulge and while money is a little tighter since I've moved out of home, I think I can allow myself to splurge just a little bit. More than material possessions though, what would really make my birthday is being able to go back home to spend a few days with my family and friends, so I'm hoping a little trip back to Perth is on the cards soon. Nevertheless, dreaming of expensive pretty things is fun, so here's what I'd be treating myself to if money weren't an issue!
The new Apple iPhones were announced just last week and seeing as though my current contract expires soon and it's my birthday, it's the perfect time to upgrade. My old iPhone 5s with a mere 16GB no longer cuts it. I haven't updated any of my apps in so long, I'm constantly deleting things to make room for photos and I don't even have the iOS with the new emojis! I used to think the iPhone 6 was way too big, but having seen my friends' phones, I really enjoy the bigger screen. I plan on upgrading to the silver 64GB iPhone 6s as gold is not really my colour and the rose gold is more pink, if you ask me.
Still on technological gadgets, I really want the Canon EOS M3 as a more travel-friendly camera. My trusty Canon EOS 600D has been around Asia, Europe and interstate many times, but due to the weight and size, it's just not practical. What I love about the EOS M3 is that it's compact, more portable and even has a flip out screen, so you can easily take photos of yourself. With a lens adapter, you can also interchange lenses with Canon DSLRs. I've been using Canon cameras since university and I really can't imagine using anything else - they're the best! Minimal watch faces seem to be a trend that's here to stay, though I've never really found a brand I liked until now. I fell in love with Rosefield at first sight, however, upon discovering them on Tumblr. On my wishlist is their The Bowery watch in Rose Gold as I'm just starting to get into rose gold jewellery. Yes, very late jumping on board this bandwagon, but after being unsure, I find it does suit my skin tone and a lot more than actual gold too. I've been wearing my silver Casio watch for years now, so it's time to invest in a second watch and mix up the metals a little!
I've never been the best at getting my eight glasses a day, but I feel like I would if I had a nice water bottle to drink out of, as vain as that sounds! Like the pathetic person I am, one night I Googled "stylish water bottle" and came across the brand, BKR. Made out of glass and silicone, and BPA and phthalate-free, these bottles inspired by the runway come in a load of cute colours and are so fun! I'm after the 500ml bottle in the shade Tiptoe, a sheer dusty lavender. I used to use the VOSS water bottles, but I found they still became manky after a few uses.
We all know my love affair with all things French, so it should come as no surprise that the book, How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are is something I'm wanting to get my hands on. I once had a customer at work ask me if I were French (best. Compliment. Ever.) to which I replied, "I wish!", but I could definitely use some more guidance and it seems like a fun, light-hearted read too. My cute mum was actually going to buy the book for me just because until my sister told her I already had it!
No birthday wishlist of mine is complete without some beauty bits and Diptyque. I've had both the Chanel Le Blanc de Chanel Multi-Use Illuminating Base and Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation on my wishlist for almost two years now, though Chanel may have to stay on there a little bit longer, unfortunately. However, with my Myer One birthday voucher, I plan on finally picking up that ridiculously expensive bottle of foundation and I cannot wait! I didn't really get the hype over the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette when it came out, but the release of the Naked2 Basics shortly after definitely had me sold. I'm always drawn to cool-toned matte brown shades for smokey eyes and this little palette is just super cute and convenient for travelling too. My lovely friend Jess has offered to pick me up some things during her trip to Hawaii soon, so of course I had to ask her to bring me back some MAC stuff where the brand is literally half the price! On the list I gave her is MAC's Lipstick in Spirit, Lip Pencil in Stripdown and a few Pro Palette Refill Pans that will also contribute as my own birthday present to myself!
From Diptyque, I'm really digging their fig scented products, which is definitely a scent I didn't like at first. As I've gotten older, however, I've noticed my taste in fragrance has changed quite a bit, and I think discovering luxury boutique brands like Diptyque and Jo Malone has had a lot to do with that! I'm lusting after the Philosykos EDT and Figuier Candle, which to me, would make the most perfect spring scents this season. One day they will be mine! One day.
Lastly, I also plan on picking up a few items from American Apparel that I have been wanting for months. I always wait for my 30% off birthday voucher though because I would never ever buy American Apparel full price!
