In the four years that I've been blogging, I have never made a single monthly or current favourites post. I was quite astonished to find this out when going through the archives of my blog (I thought I had made at least one!) because they're some of the most popular and easiest posts to put together. To be honest, monthly favourites are not the kind of blog posts I enjoy reading or videos I like watching because they're just kind of boring and unimaginative. Plus, I don't think things change up in my routine that often enough for me to be able to report back on a monthly basis of what I've been loving. Instead, when I have new products I want to talk about, I try to create more of a themed blog post. Today, however, I am bringing you my first current favourites post because there are a few products I've been enjoying lately that I've been eager to talk about, and I just didn't know what kind of blog post to incorporate them into. I'll never be into doing monthly favourites posts, but I may make current favourites a thing here from time to time whenever I have gathered a substantial amount of products together worthy of a post. But enough rambling, let's get onto the products I've been loving as of late!
Starting off with skincare, I've definitely been enjoying the perks of receiving free beauty products from my generous boss at my internship! I introduced the Antipodes Worship Superfruit Antioxidant Serum into my daytime skincare routine about a month or so ago and it's been a most welcomed addition. It aims to keep skin youthful and fortify skin cells against early ageing and free radical damage, and with ingredients such as boysenberry and blackcurrant, it smells like you could eat it! A water-based serum, it almost feels like you're applying fruit juice to your skin and it is little sticky too, but it soon goes away once it's properly patted into the skin. The serum also contains shots of coffee, açaí and essential fatty acids, which I think works to perk up the skin in the morning.
Another product gifted to me by my boss was the Soap & Glory Smoothie Star Body Buttercream, which I've been using religiously this winter. I have the Sugar Crush Body Buttercream that's reserved for the warmer months, though Smoothie Star's pistachio, almond and sweet vanilla fragrance is a cold weather alternative that smells more seasonally appropriate during this time of year. I know in the UK Soap & Glory is a drugstore brand, but here in Australia, it's stocked at Kit Cosmetics, which I consider high end, and this definitely feels like it too. Luxuriously thick, it sinks in beautifully to moisturise dry skin and Soap & Glory are a brand whose body products I really just adore.
After my Lush Popcorn Lip Scrub ran out, I decided to try the Mecca Cosmetica Kissable Lips Smoothing Lip Exfoliant in replacement. At just over double the price of the Lush counterpart, I was expecting big things from this and I must say, it definitely does deliver. The sugar granules are a lot more refined making it less messy to use and with the Lush Lip Scrub, I always needed to follow up with lip balm. My lips would feel a little dry upon application, but I don't have that same issue with Kissable Lips as it's more balmy as opposed to oily. The squeeze tube also makes it a lot more convenient and travel-friendly.
The Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant is one of those cult classic products that for some reason, I don't reach for as often as I should. Feeling like I needed to rectify this, I've rediscovered my love for the multi-purpose product just within the last week or so. I use it on my lips, cat scratches (my housemate's cat will not keep still when we try to cut his claws!) and on the skin around my nails that I have a bad habit of biting. It has a permanent place on my bedside table and is a product I now won't be forgetting how much I love.
I'm all about the dewy base when it comes to makeup and if I'm heading out for a few short hours and don't need the coverage or as much longevity, I love whipping out the YSL Le Teint Touche Éclat Foundation to make dull winter skin glow. It's a lightweight foundation that evens out the complexion and I'll never ever be able to get over the packaging. So luxe! On the days I choose to wear Laura Mercier Silk Crème Foundation, I love mixing in a bit of the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl into it. Not at all glittery, it provides a soft-focused sheen to the skin and it looks so radiant. My thoughts on strobing are still undecided, but I can't get enough of this right now and I'm eager to pick up the smaller size versions of either Rose Gold or Moonstone when Sephora finally opens in Melbourne (!!!).
Still on base, my go-to concealer at the moment is the MAC Studio Finish Concealer. I've been using the stuff since I first got properly into makeup and all these years later, it never ceases to amaze me. Thick, creamy and super full coverage, it somehow still blends into the skin so seamlessly and never creases under my eyes. Pictured here is my backup because my current little pot is definitely looking worse for wear! A much-loved handbag staple.
I've been wearing MAC's Lip Pencil in Soar non-stop since I first got my hands on it around two months ago now. It's a pinky tea rose colour and pairs so well with all my pink lipsticks. A new lipstick I've found to pair with it is the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Lipstick in Boy and the combination is just so beautiful and effortless. I bought this lipstick with the birthday money I received from my nanna last year and I think both this and Soar are universally flattering shades on any skin tone and are two must-have lip products.
