Pretty in Pink #2
I never would have imagined myself as someone liking pink makeup products. I've always strictly been into my nudes and my corals as I found those colours to suit my complexion the most. Over the course of a couple of years or so however, I've been gravitating more towards pink and first wrote about it here. Since that blog post, quite a few more pink products have made their way into my collection as I've learnt more about what shades of pink complement my medium skin tone and how to wear them without looking overly Barbie-like. From nude pinks, to rose pinks and even straight out bubblegum pinks, here are the makeup products I just adore now that pink has become a colour I really embrace wearing.
I have a whole lot of love for MAC lip products and making up the majority of my collection, I feel like the brand just gets it right every time. One day while browsing the counter during my lunch break at work, I swatched MAC's Lipstick in Mehr, and for the rest of my shift that day, I couldn't stop staring at my hand, I was so in love. It was sold out for the longest time and I didn't even realise Mehr was a popular shade until I noticed more bloggers and YouTubers talking about it. A matte finish, it's described as a "dirty blue pink", which translates as a subdued rosy pink on my lips. Even as a matte formula, it's still really creamy and easy to wear, and one I reach for when I'm going for an effortless, but still done up look.
Faux is my most recent lipstick addition, which my housemate picked up for me from the US (for half the price!) and one Jennifer influenced me to buy. I'm not going to lie, I was also influenced by the French-word name, but I love this shade of pink on me more than I thought I would. This "muted mauve-pink" satin finish veers on the nude side, but adds a bit more something-something than just your average straight up nude lip. In contrast, Snob is the most out-of-my-comfort-zone pink lip colour and to be honest, one I don't reach for as often. Also a satin finish, I Backed 2 MAC for this lipstick, so it's not a complete waste, but it's a colour that just requires a bit more effort to pull off. The MAC website describes it as a "light neutral pink", but it is hardly neutral in my eyes and is a straight up blue-based bubblegum pink to me. It can look quite stark if applied freely, so I like to pat it into the lips to neutralise the colour, but it still looks fun and playful, which is what I really love about Snob. YSL's Baby Doll Kiss & Blush Lips & Cheeks in Rose Epicurien is a very similar colour, only slightly less blue and the two pair so beautifully when worn together. The Kiss & Blushes are a pretty fuss-free lip product, though I always forget it's a two-in-one and have not yet worn it on the cheeks.
Back onto MAC, I recently acquired their Lip Pencil in Soar (again, thanks to my housemate!), which I know has possibly been raved on about to death here, but with good reason. A "mid-tone pinkish brown", a lot of people describe this and Mehr as a my-lips-but-better colour, though on me, it's definitely more pink due to my naturally darker pigmented lips. It's the perfect match for Mehr and I've really been enjoying wearing it with Faux too and even on its own. The final lip product I want to talk about is the NARS Audacious Lipstick in Anna. It's not all that dissimilar from Mehr, but it has the ever so slightest purplish undertones, which I think makes it a really unique shade of rosy pink. I absolutely adore the formulation of the Audacious Lipsticks, which I now own two of, and the metal packaging and magnetic closure makes these lipsticks look just as luxe as they apply.
A pink lipstick needs a pink blush to go with it and I'm really into the dusty rose and neutral nude pink kind of shades for my cheeks. Illamasqua's Powder Blusher in Naked Rose is a "neutral beige pink", which is definitely an accurate description. In the pan, it looks a lot more bright, but once applied, it translates as a lovely subdued shade of pink. I feel like everybody here owns Tarte's Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Exposed, but the hype is real, people. A straight up nude pink, Exposed pairs perfectly with any and every lip colour. On days I can't decide what makeup to wear, I'll usually pick this one out because no matter what, I know it'll look good with what ever I finally choose.
