In my last post, I showed you all my favourite makeup products of the year and now I'm back today with the rest of the beauty bits I loved throughout 2015. In comparison to makeup, it wasn't a very big year, particularly across skincare and haircare, but with well-established routines I'm really happy with, there wasn't really anything new I was eager to try and what I did buy were just repurchases. Plus, 2015 was my first full year living out of home and paying rent, so I also had to adult... as much as I wish all my money could be spent on beauty products! Nevertheless, it's been another great year in beauty for me and I'm already eager to see what 2016 will bring!
I've been following a pretty consistent skincare routine for the past two or three years now, but even for a beauty junkie like me, it was still quite a shock to realise I had only introduced one new product into my regime this year... and I didn't even purchase it myself! While I was working at my beauty internship, my boss so generously gifted me the Antipodes Worship Superfruit Antioxidant Serum and I was super excited to try more from the much-loved Kiwi brand. Fortifying skin cells against early signs of ageing and free radical damage, it's a water-based serum packed with antioxidants to boost the skin. At 27 years old, I'm not getting any younger, so now's the time to be thinking more about anti-ageing... regardless of whether people think I'm only 18.
In body care, I was also gifted the Soap & Glory Smoothie Star Body Buttercream from my former boss. I miss the perks of working in beauty! With the most delicious pistachio, almond and sweet vanilla scent, I loved whipping this out during the dry, colder months to keep my skin nourished and moisturised.
In 2015, I decided to switch things up with new hair-washing products. I had been using the Redken Smooth Lock Shampoo and Conditioner for years and when I felt the urge to try something new, I decided to give the Bumble and Bumble Creme de Coco Shampoo and Conditioner a go. I had previously used the Creme de Coco Masque many moons ago and loved it, so while my expectations were high, like all Bumble and Bumble products I've tried, it delivers. For someone who has thick, dry and frizz-prone hair, I need something moisturising, and containing coconut and murumuru butters, this shampoo and conditioner duo helps restore sheen and softness. My mum, in fact, even commented on how soft my hair was just the other day. I spend a good amount of time in the shower just smelling these products, by the way. Just heavenly!
Earning the nickname, "Miss Madame Nail Polish", from my mum (oh, it's good to be home!), I'm quite partial to a bottle - or five - of nail polish. Although I had a complete nail polish clear-out this year, with a love for Essie, I couldn't help but make a few new additions! There were two limited edition shades I bought off of eBay - Topless & Barefoot and Absolutely Shore - while Cocktail Bling was bought with a Priceline birthday voucher and Lilacism and Angora Cardi during a Priceline 40% off makeup sale not too long ago. Angora Cardi, in particular, is the most beautiful deep rose shade, so unique to my collection. With their wide brush and non-streaky, opaque-in-one-coat finish, Essie are definitely up there as my favourite nail polish brand.
I was introduced to the Melbourne-based nail polish brand, Kester Black, this year, again, thanks to my boss at my internship. With a strong ethos behind them, Kester Black are an awesome brand to get behind if you're looking to support cruelty free/vegan and local, independent small businesses. I have the shade, Prenup, which is right up my alley as I just love lavender/lilac colours, or anything pastel, really.
With Myer One rewards vouchers to soften the blow, this year, I ended up with not only my second Jo Malone cologne, but my first ever Byredo fragrance because YOLO. Last year, I purchased Blackberry & Bay and I could not wait to get my hands on Peony & Blush Suede soon enough. It's a super girly scent, but one that exudes utter sophistication. It's sweet, but not sickly and it takes me right back to my childhood as the scent reminds me of my favourite icy pole! It took me a long time to decide on which Byredo Parfums fragrance I wanted, but in the end, I went with the 1996 EDT, a special edition fragrance created in collaboration with the artists whose photo inspired the scent. With amber, patchouli and black pepper, it's the deepest and most sultry scent I own and I can't wait to get more use out of it come wintertime.
I couldn't wait to see (or more like smell) what all the fuss was about over these Elizabeth and James fragrances everyone talks about when Sephora finally opened in Melbourne. I get the hype now and I fell in love with Nirvana White. Not needing yet another whole bottle of perfume, I opted for this adorable Nirvana White Mini Rollerball, perfect for my makeup bag. If you love Peony & Blush Suede, you'll adore this too. Fresh, floral and so uplifting!
