Hey, I'm Tenneil

I live in Perth, Australia, and this is my creative outlet where I blog about beauty, my life and everything in between. I enjoy the '80s, the '90s and anything French, and some of my favourite things in life include music,  film, summer and a nice cup of tea.

A Belated Birthday Haul

A Belated Birthday Haul

I don't know about you guys, but I love myself a good haul. I get excited for other people's purchases just as much as my own and if you don't have the luxury of being able to afford a lot at once, it's fun to live vicariously through other people! While I've mentioned in the past that my birthday isn't a big deal, there's no day like your birthday to - in the wise words of Donna Meagle and Tom Haverford - treat yo'self. Most of these things were presents to myself bought on sale or with birthday gift vouchers, though I was lucky enough to receive a few gifts from my lovely family and friends too.

Myer recently had some incredible sales and promotional offers, so whenever I can buy luxury, high end beauty bits for a significant amount cheaper, I always take advantage! With my Myer One card, I received a 10% off beauty voucher and on top of that, every $150 you spent across the store, you received a $20 gift card in return! A deal too good to pass up. The perfect opportunity to cross a few things off the wishlist, I decided to buy the Clarins Instant Light Lip Balm Perfector in Rosewood, Clarins Instant Eye Makeup Remover, as well as the Jurlique Rose Hand Cream. I enjoy the Lip Balm Perfectors a lot more than the original Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector glosses. While the product itself was lovely, the foam applicator was a breeding ground for bacteria and got so smelly, I had no choice but to throw it away. There isn't a lot I'm disappointed by when I try out hyped up products, but this is one I just didn't get. On the other hand, the Lip Balm Perfectors are hygienic and I actually prefer lip balms over glosses. With a heavenly sweet vanilla scent, the shade Rosewood is the perfect nude for my complexion and I love wearing this underneath nude lipsticks too.

I've been using the Instant Eye Makeup Remover to remove heavy eye makeup and I like that I can use less product with this. My cotton pads are usually drenched in Bioderma whenever I go all out on the eyes. It's by no means necessary to have both a micellar water and separate eye makeup remover in your skincare routine, but nevertheless, it was a great time more than ever to try it out. The Jurlique Rose Hand Cream was a Jess-inspired purchase. It's her favourite rose scent and as a lover of rose scents myself, I wanted to give this hand cream a go. I'm still working on using up my Caudalie Hand and Nail Cream, but for now, the sleek tube looks pretty sat on top my desk!

With the additional $20 gift card I received, I decided on a light coverage base for the spring/summer seasons. I'd been wanting to try the Dior Diorskin Nude BB Creme for a while and I absolutely love it! I'm in the shade 002 Fair, which is madness because never in my life would I consider myself to have a fair skin tone, but the product only comes in a few shades. If coverage is what you're after, I wouldn't recommend this, but for evening out skin tone and adding a rosy radiance to the complexion, it's beautiful. For such a light coverage base, it's super long-lasting and the fragrance of the BB Creme is just lovely too; it smells very similar to Chanel Vitalumière Aqua.

I received another $20 voucher from Myer for my birthday and with that, I indulged and treated myself to the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. The sales assistant who colour-matched me was so lovely and said my skin was as smooth as an egg, and I kid you not, that it gave her an orgasm to apply my foundation! Haha! Unfortunately, while we did spend a bit of time trying out different shades, 5.5 is a touch too warm-toned for my liking. In hindsight, the counter was very dimly lit and even though I was wearing NARS Sheer Glow Foundation in Santa Fe (my most perfect foundation) to match it up to, I am a little disappointed such an expensive foundation isn't my perfect shade. Having said that though, I can still work with it and once it's sunk into the skin, you can't tell and I even forget! The coverage is buildable and revealing a silky smooth, glowing complexion, I honestly can't stop staring at my skin when I wear this foundation.

There were a couple of pastel Essie nail polishes I'd been wanting, and seeing as though it's now seasonally appropriate, I picked up Topless & Barefoot and Absolutely Shore from eBay as I couldn't find them anywhere else. With my $5 birthday voucher from Priceline, I bought Cocktail Bling, which is a bit darker than it looks in my photo and is like the blue equivalent of Essie's Maximillian Strasse-Her, which is one of my all-time favourite nail polish shades. I had originally intended on buying a brighter shade for spring, but Mum and I both loved Cocktail Bling and I'm not one to stick to certain colours in certain seasons, anyway.

I never expect birthday gifts from my family, but when MY ENTIRE IMMEDIATE FAMILY FORGOT it was even my birthday, my mum insisted! Seriously! It was more funny than anything, plus birthdays and holidays just really aren't a big deal to my family and I. Don't worry, they still love me! To make up for it, however, she bought me How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are, which instantly reminded her of me when she first saw it, and this beautiful Hinged Table Lamp in Copper from Freedom. I know, copper lamp, I am a complete and utter blogger cliché, but look how pretty!

I received yet another $20 birthday gift voucher, this time from Country Road, which was amazing as I absolutely adore their Scandinavian-inspired homewares. I decided to purchase the Rune Small Hurricane Candle, which I think I'm actually going to use as a pot for a succulent or cactus.

With my birthday money from my nanna and a family friend, I was going to buy myself a Tom Ford lipstick (I bought myself a Chanel one last year), but part of me felt incredibly guilty buying more makeup. I mean, I would still love to own a fancy Tom Ford lipstick one of these days, but I decided to use the money to buy myself a ticket to see Chet Faker instead. Material possessions are nice because you have things to show for your money, but experiences are more valuable and don't always present themselves. I have a lot of makeup. Whatever is on my wishlist can wait!

I received a package in the mail from my beautiful friend, Jennifer, who kindly gifted me MAC's Lipstick in Whirl and the Pandora Camera Silver Charm for my birthday. Already owning Whirl Lip Pencil, I hadn't really intended on buying the matching lipstick, but now that I have it, I'm so glad I do! It's the perfect deep brown-pink shade I've been looking for in a lipstick because most dark nude lipsticks are your-lips-but-better colours on me. It's so freaking '90s, I love it. I don't wear my Pandora charm bracelet a whole lot these days, but it's one of those things I've been meaning to complete for years. A camera Pandora charm from a friend I met through blogging - how fitting!
