Blogging has grown a considerable amount since the time I started back in March 2011. Bloggers have thousands, if not, tens of thousands of followers, and my perspective on blogging has changed a lot since then as I no longer concern myself with my follower count. Don't get me wrong, I still get excited when Bloglovin' notifies me of one little new follower and when I reached 1000 of you lot, it definitely felt like an achievement that left me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. To celebrate this milestone, but more importantly, say thank you, I thought I'd do a 1000 followers giveaway. I know it's a little belated, but I did pay for this giveaway with my own money... and my Feel Unique order took freaking forever to arrive.
I've always had some sort of online presence, but only until I started blogging did I feel like I was doing something worthwhile with my free time. It's definitely evolved into something I did not expect - I didn't know it would become so beauty orientated - but I'm happy with the direction my blog has taken because I've always remained true to myself and it's what I want my blog to be for me. There are bloggers out there who are about building a brand, making money and doing this "professionally", but for me, I just want this to be my creative space where I talk about the things I love, my life and anything else in between. It will always be my favourite hobby and while I do wish I could post more regularly for you all, this isn't my job and if I did blog everyday, I wouldn't have time for the other things I enjoy in life or need to get done in my free time. Sometimes I may spend the day taking photos only to decide I'm not happy with any of them, so I have to wait until my next day off work. My days off work are usually my makeup free days too and I don't necessarily want to wear makeup for a mere two hours to simply take blog photos. It's definitely something I want to work on, but I do try my hardest to blog when I can.
It's frustrating not being able to dedicate as much time into something I really love, especially when so many people do this every single day, but to tell you the truth, I think that would take some of the enjoyment out of it for me too. As much as I love beauty products, there's only so much you can say until it all becomes monotonous and while I do wish my fellow Aussie bloggers would post more regularly as they're some of my favourites, I understand that it's not easy and I'd rather get excited to see my favourite bloggers post once a week, hell, even once a month, than to have them churn out mediocre content everyday. I think no matter how often you blog, it's important to remember quality over quantity. The landscape of blogging is so much different in Australia and I like that. Perhaps that'll change in the future, but as blogging becomes more PR-based and editorial, I hope it doesn't ever become so in-your-face over here. I'm a perfectionist, which is both my strength and weakness, and even though I only blog a few times a month, I try not to stress too much about what you guys think because my main focus is to be 100% happy with the content I produce and be the best version of myself I can possibly be.
It really does melt my heart that over 1000 of you read my blog. Comparatively speaking, it's not a huge number, but I've never felt more content with my blog. It took me three years to reach 1000 (I had 100 at the end of my first year of blogging) and some people have been doing this in half the time, yet have double, maybe even triple the amount of followers I have. That's okay though because blogging isn't a race and it isn't a competition. It by no means defines who you are as a blogger and the quality of your content. Like all things in life, I think it's important to always focus on yourself and forget the negativity. Just work hard, stay positive and the right things will attract themselves into your life. There are things I don't like about blogging, but there are more things that I love about it. I love taking photos and because of blogging, I think I've become better at it. Sometimes I want to delete my old blog posts when I look back at some awfully taken photos, but I don't because they're a part of my journey and progress too. Writing isn't exactly my favourite thing because I find it the most time consuming, but I love telling stories and showing my personality through my writing. My posts are always tl;dr, but I don't know how to write any other way and I hope that at least some of you read all what I have to say. I love beauty products and I own far too many lipsticks and blushes than I'll ever need in a lifetime. Above all, I love being creative and I feel like my blog is a true expression of my personality. It's given me some incredible opportunities to contribute to other blogs and landed me an amazing internship in Sydney last year, all of which I have added to my résumé as I want to get a job in digital marketing/social media.
For the longest time, I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do with my university degree (I studied a Bachelor of Communications, majoring in Advertising and Creative Services), but I think I really found myself through blogging and I have more awareness of who I am and who I want to be. I am grateful that I have made friends with like-minded people who share similar thoughts and ideas to me, but also present new, fresh ones that constantly inspire me and make me want to be a better blogger. I've developed some true friendships that have extended far beyond beauty products who I can now call my real life friends too. It's honestly the thing that has made me the happiest to be a part of this community and I just love talking to you all on Twitter. I have met most of my fellow Australian blogger girls and I can only dream of meeting all you lovelies up in the Northern Hemisphere. Just give me Space NK and Sephora now, please.
Onto the exciting part, these are the things I'll be giving away to one lucky person. I wanted the giveaway to be something personal, very "me" and things that I absolutely adore. There are a couple of Australian products in there, but they're mostly French. Obviously.
Caudalie Beauty Elixir
I don't hear bloggers talking about this anymore, but I still love the Caudalie Beauty Elixir. It's a fine mist that's deeply soothing and refreshing, and nothing perks me up quite like this. It can be used as a toner or as a quick pick-me-up even over makeup. I bought my first bottle when I was in Paris two years ago and the scent always brings back memories of my summer in Europe.
Nuxe Rêve de Miel
You all know my obsession for everything and anything French by now. Nuxe Rêve de Miel soothes dry, parched lips and unlike most lip balms, it has a matte finish. It's pretty intense stuff as it's quite thick and it's my favourite lip balm to use overnight. A must have for winter!
Guerlain Météorites in #2 Claire
I really wanted to get the Météorites in Teint Rosé, which is what I have, but they were out of stock, so I decided to get Claire, which I think is really similar and will suit most skintones. The finish is reminiscent of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders and they smell really lovely too. It's a beautiful product both inside and out and will look so gorgeous set on top your dressing table.
Aesop Ressurection Aromatique Hand Balm
It didn't take me long to fall head over heels in love with this hand cream. It's incredibly nourishing, yet not greasy and nothing has helped my dry elbows more than this. It smells natural and fresh, and all the more, it's Australian.
Kikki K notebook and pen
Kikki K is my favourite stationery store and I thought as a blogger who has ideas and thoughts constantly running through her mind, it would be fitting to give away a cute notebook and pen. Maybe you're a fellow blogger, thinking about starting one or just need a place to jot down your thoughts - no one ever doesn't need a notebook! Unleash that creativity.
Ladurée candle in Caramel
It was a last minute decision to add something more to my giveaway and as I was going to Sydney and would be visiting Ladurée, I took the opportunity to pick up a candle for you guys. I figure they're less accessible than Diptyque and who doesn't love caramel?!
There's also a cute bunny card (I think this was meant for Easter, but whatever) that I'll write a little message in to say yay for winning and thank you. I really wish I could give away something to each and every one of you, but unfortunately, I am not that rich and I don't think my local post office would be too pleased. Again, thank you all so much for following my blog, reading, commenting, Tweeting me and just generally being such wonderful people. I blog for myself and the fact that so many of you enjoy it means the world to me.
