March was a bit of a blah month for me. There are things I want so badly in my life and sometimes I get a little down that I don't have them yet. I have to remind myself that I just have to keep working hard and with patience, those things will eventually come to me. Sometimes I feel like I'm not working hard enough, yet at the same time, I'm doing what I can and then I just feel so confused. I think I just overthink too much. I'm feeling much more positive now and have even been jotting down new blog post ideas in my notebook, which I just love to do. However, now that summer is over, the clouds have come out to play and it affects my photos so much, which is so frustrating!
I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for your heartfelt comments on my Blogging as a Job. vs. a Hobby blog post. I was truly overwhelmed by the lengthy responses I received and I'm so glad so many of you could relate. I appreciate every single comment I receive on any blog post, but more than just saying, "Great blog post!", you all really opened up to me and it put such a smile on my face. I always try to do the same when commenting on blogs too because I think if you're going to make the effort in the first place, you may as well say something worthwhile and show the blogger you actually read and appreciated their blog post. As much as I love reading about beauty, my favourite sorts of blog posts are the ones where I truly get to know who I'm reading about on a far less superficial level of what's in their makeup bag or their current skincare routine. I also get to know a little more about you guys too, which I love. As I'm nearing 1,000 followers, I have already started planning a big giveaway and I'm so excited!
My favourite blog this month has been Miaou or Never, which is run by the lovely Lily. Can we all just take a moment to flail over her adorable blog name? Anything cats will turn me into mush. I've been a huge fan of her blog since Red Brick Lipstick and obviously, I'm loving the fresh, new start just as much. Her photography is just so dreamy and from her love of Wes Anderson, Sofia Coppola, Lolita and Paris, she has perfect taste in just everything.
At the beginning of the month, I went to Future Music Festival where I saw two of my all time favourite bands, Cut Copy and Phoenix, live. It was my tenth time (yes, TENTH. I am totally not a crazy obsessed fan who named her blog after them...) seeing Cut Copy live and my third time seeing Phoenix, so it's pretty obvious I have a huge, huge love of live music. It's just my favourite thing in the world, really. Plus, Dan Whitford and Thomas Mars are total dreamboats. If you didn't know, Thomas Mars is Sofia's Coppola's husband and it makes me so happy that two of my favourite people are married to each other! In March, I listened to the new releases by Phantogram and Real Estate and there is only one word to describe them: LOVE. HAERTS and Future Unlimited also respectively release a new track and my heart is literally aching for full length albums from them both! Future Unlimited's release is a haunting cover of Don't You (Forget About Me) by Simple Minds, the song played at the end of the classic '80s film, The Breakfast Club. And speaking of covers, Twin Shadow covered The Smiths', There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, and it's absolutely sublime.
Film and television
After finishing the wonderful Freaks And Geeks, which I still cannot get over only lasted one season, I started watching another one season high school drama series called My So-Called Life, starring Claire Danes. I was intrigued by this show after seeing a picture of it on Tumblr. Anything '90s will just lure me in. It's definitely no Freaks And Geeks, but I'm still really enjoying it. It's actually really refreshing to watch something a little more raw than your average Gossip Girl and The O.C. Don't get me wrong, I loved both those shows, but they were a bit ridiculous at times! As for films, I watched Blue Jasmine and Diana, which I both really enjoyed. Cate Blanchett is basically flawless and despite what the critics had to say about Diana, I didn't think it was as bad as they made it out to be. I think it did help that Naomi Watts is an incredible actress though.
Seeing my favourite band for the tenth time was obviously the most significant event in March (and in my life in general!) and I also went to my first ever sports game, which was the soccer. I wouldn't be in a hurry to watch a sports game again any time soon, though I did find it kind of fascinating how people can get so fanatical over a bunch of men kicking a ball. Apart from that, I enjoyed a few drunken nights out with my friends and as much as I love staying in with a movie and some junk food, it's good to get out once in a while. I'm glad I haven't turned into a complete grandma yet, though my hangovers that take literally all day to recover from say otherwise. Lastly, I've been working on some incredible blog projects, which I can't wait to share with you all later in the month. For now, my lips are sealed as I don't want to ruin the surprise!
