The Blogger Made Me Buy It Tag
I'd seen this tag floating around the blogosphere for a while and after especially seeing Ash's blog post, I thought I’d give it a go as it looked like a lot of fun. I really liked the questions, though I have to say that blogging has probably contributed to about 99.9% of the products I buy. I'm specifically tagging Katrina to do this tag because she's never heard of it before, but everyone should do it!
Who are your most influential bloggers?
When it comes to influencing me into blowing all my money away, my two biggest enablers would have to be Vivianna Does Makeup and Ghost Parties. Vivianna and Kate seem to know their stuff and if they rave on about something, you know it’s got to be good. I don't think I've ever been disappointed by a product I've purchased because of them.
Who are the ones you rely on for reviews and swatches?
For reviews, I again rely on Vivianna and Kate, as well as Lily, as they perhaps could be considered three of the biggest trend setters in beauty. When it comes to swatches, I rely on Temptalia. Even before I became enthralled with the beauty blogging community, as a girl, I've always been somewhat interested in makeup, and she used to post her makeup looks on LiveJournal, so I’ve been a fan of her work even before Temptalia even existed. Karla Sugar is also a great blog for swatches.
Do you buy a product solely as a result from one review of your favourite bloggers, or do you look for more reviews from others?
Usually when I read or watch a review of a product that intrigues me, I’ll do further research into it. A lot of time, my favourite bloggers end up reviewing the same products, so I don’t necessarily have to look for them because they’re all on my Bloglovin’ feed and I'll go to the bloggers whose opinions I trust the most.
What is your most favourite item that you have ever bought as a consequence of blogs?
There are way too many, but the standout ones that I can instantly think of off the top of my head are the cult products such as the Urban Decay Naked Palette, Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, Caudalie Beauty Elixir and Bioderma Sensibio H2O. My Urban Decay palette barely looks touched, but I can assure you, this is one of my most use palettes. I find it really difficult to hit pan on eyeshadows no matter how much I use them.
What is your least favourite product that you have ever bought as a consequence of blogs?
The only product I remember really not getting along with was Benefit's The POREfessional, but apart from that, I don’t think there’s anything, to tell you the truth. While I do tend to buy quite a lot, I’m also very picky with what I buy and I would never buy anything just because everyone’s talking about it. I only buy what really interests me and what I think I’ll like and because of that, I very rarely end up disappointed by products. I’ve never really understood ‘Products I regret buying’ types of blog posts for that reason. There's definitely been products that I've given away/swapped, but this was before I got properly into blog reading. I really love everything I own.
Name five products that you have recently bought as a result of blogs?
This post should be a pretty good indication, but the YSL Le Teint Touche Éclat Foundation has been a more newer purchase, as well as the Jo Malone Cologne in Blackberry & Bay and Nails Inc. Nail Polish in Baker St. There hasn't been anything else too recently as I'm trying to save!
Have you ever given into blogger hype? If so, which hype?
What hype haven’t I given into?!
Have you ever avoided blogger hype? If so, which hype?
The Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette. The Naked 1 and 2 Palettes are beautiful, but I know Naked 3 would never suit my complexion. All the bloggers are obsessed with rose gold and it’s really not for me. Also, anything drugstore. I probably only own about five drugstore beauty products as it just isn’t something I get excited by. Drugstore makeup isn't even that cheap in Australia, so I’d rather spend the extra $20 or so on high end things that I’m actually going to love and use. Maybe that makes me a snob, but I don’t care! My money doesn't concern other people.
Is everything you buy based on blogger reviews or are there some items that you buy without checking a review?
Whether it’s bloggers, Makeup Alley or reviews on online stores, I always make sure I read reviews before I purchase products. I think it’s really important to have an understanding of what you’re buying, at least for me it is, because as a lover of the luxurious, beauty products aren't cheap. When I first got into higher end products, I didn’t read many reviews and because of that I've ended up giving away a few things, but I’ve now learnt that researching what you buy has such a significant impact on how much you’re going to love a product.
