Covering All Bases: Concealer
I'm not huge on concealer. Similarly as I used to think with foundation, it's one those more boring products that I don't ever really think about buying or feel the need to try different ones. Obviously, my opinions on foundation have since changed and in comparison to my foundation post here, you can see my collection of concealers is no where near as extensive. I have relatively good skin these days and while I do love it for hiding redness and banishing the occasional spot, on those mornings when I've accidentally (but mostly on purpose) slept in and I'm in a rush, I can get away with just wearing foundation without looking too much like a zombie. I wish I could allow myself more time in the mornings to get ready, but sleep > makeup.
Since I first got into high end makeup, I've remained loyal to MAC Studio Finish Concealer. I'm in the shade NC30 and I've used it for years. While I do love trying out new products, there are just some that I'm attached to and can't even think about departing from. This is one of them. When I used to suffer from acne (it wasn't the worst acne, but it was bad enough to make me feel self-conscious and noticeable enough to have my family try to help me), this would cover everything right up and always made me feel so much better about my appearance. It's thick and creamy, yet doesn't look cakey and is really easy to blend. I like using my finger to apply it as it warms up the product, which is usually needed during the winter when some products harden a little. The only downfall is that it can be a little on the drying side to use under the eyes, but apart from that, I love this concealer. As you can see, my little pot is pretty well loved and I have a back up of it in my collection too.
As I previously mentioned, I've never really felt the need to try different concealers, but for some reason, I felt compelled to do so with the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. The fact that it was NARS, radiant and creamy was enough to sell me and give it a go, and I'm so glad I did. As my beloved MAC Studio Finish can be a little drying, it doesn't make it ideal to use under the eyes, so this is where Radiant Creamy Concealer comes in. It's super smooth, it's hydrating and applies under the eyes like a dream to make you appear more awake and fresh after those nights where you just can't seem to tear yourself away from your computer screen. I'm in the shade Custard and apart from using it under the eyes, I use it on any areas where I get redness too, for those days when I don't need such a full coverage with my MAC Studio Finish or just can't be bothered to use two concealers. It's described as "medium to full coverage", though I'd say it's more medium and you probably couldn't cover pesky spots with it. For everything else that needs to be hidden away, this is a really beautiful concealer.
This last product isn't a concealer, but I've been using the YSL Touche Éclat for a fair few years now to brighten the under eye area, which technically helps conceal dark circles... right? My dark circles aren't bad enough to the point where I think I need to use a colour correcting product, so I love using the Touche Éclat over the top of my NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer to really help lift my eye area and help appear alive and awake for the day. In the shade 1.5, it's creamy, easy to blend and is described as "eight hours of sleep", which is a pretty extravagant statement to make, but it's pretty damn close to it. You instantly appear well rested and this is definitely holy grail for me.
