Throughout my university years, I had pretty problematic skin and I couldn't ever recall a time where my skin wasn't breaking out or I had scarring all over my face. Having gone through high school blemish free, it affected my self-esteem seeing my skin change so drastically and I felt so helpless trying product after product without noticing a difference. Since becoming entranced with the online world of beauty blogging some four years ago, I took the time to develop a skincare routine that works really well for me. I don't play favourites too often as I really do love everything I use for my skin, but one particular product worthy of its own blog post is Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair. I've mentioned this product briefly in past blog posts and having used it religiously almost everyday for the past three years now, it's safe to say this brown and gold bottle has changed my life.
A serum aimed at making the skin look more youthful, radiant, even-toned and hydrated, I was searching for a product that would reduce my hyper-pigmentation. As someone who scars really easily, my skin is still left in a pretty terrible state once my breakouts have healed, and as I'd heard many bloggers rave on about Advanced Night Repair, I naturally turned to this too. I started off with the smaller 30ml bottle and after about a month or so of using it everyday, I was hooked, and it was then decided that I needed the full size 50ml bottle in my life. Sometimes it can be hard to notice whether a product is actually working for your skin or not because it's a very gradual process, but what really made me realise the dramatic difference was when I looked back on an old photo and couldn't believe how bad my skin looked in comparison to how it does now. Furthermore, my family noticed, people at work noticed and when I've been colour-matched foundations at various cosmetic counters, makeup artists have complimented me on my skin too. I'm not someone who needs validation from people in order to feel confident in myself, but I simply say this to highlight how well this product has worked to clear my complexion.
Formerly known as Advanced Night Repair Synchronised Recovery Complex, it was rebranded to Advanced Night Repair Synchronised Recovery Complex II last year with new ingredients added to this already magical formulation. The old formula simply focused on repairing the skin, however, algae extract and yeast extract now aim to purify the skin too by eliminating "internal debris", thus increasing how well it repairs the skin. I've been using the new (well, not so new now) formula for about a year now and to be honest, I really haven't noticed a difference. This isn't necessarily a bad thing though because it's always delivered amazing results and is a product I would continue to repurchase, old formula or new.
Advanced Night Repair contains another well-loved ingredient, hyaluronic acid, which locks in moisture. I don't find its moisturising properties as noticeable, but that's okay because I more specifically use it to brighten and clear my skin. As an anti-ageing treatment also, it visibly reduces lines and wrinkles, but only time will tell if it works for that! I use it as a preventative measure, though it really isn't my primary skin concern right now as people think I'm only nineteen as it is. I'm not one sensitive to fragranced skincare products, but if you are, you'll be happy to know this is fragrance free too.
Coming in at a whopping $140 for the 50ml bottle ($95 for 30ml), this stuff sure isn't cheap, but to me, it's utterly, utterly worth it. My acne scars have dramatically faded if not completely gone, my skin is even-toned and I feel generally more confident in my own skin without wearing makeup. It completely turned my skin around and if something works that well for me, I like to stay loyal to those products and don't have too much of an issue dropping all that money. With a shelf-life of twenty four months, you can kind of justify the price that way too because it lasts a long time and isn't something you're going to have to be repurchasing a lot. I've used this bottle almost everyday for the past year and a bit, and I'd say I've still got a good three to four months worth of product left. If you were to ask me what my holy grail skincare product was, Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair would be it and I don't see that changing any time soon, or if ever.
