Hi everyone! Remember me? I've finally got Internet in my apartment now and it feels really good to be back! I'm slowly settling into life here in Melbourne and though I still miss home a lot, all those feelings are just normal, I think. My room isn't 100% organised and set up yet, but it's getting there and I can't wait to show you all soon. For now, I thought I'd get back into the swing of blogging with a quick and easy post on five products I love to use to combat tired and dull eyes.
I've written about these five products here on my blog before, but they're definitely worth mentioning again because they're all so fabulous. One thing you should know about me is that I'm not a morning person. At all. I have a terrible habit of going to bed late, so anything that's going to help perk up my eyes when the alarm goes off and I'm faced with the dreaded task of getting myself out of bed, I'm all for. Once I've got myself in the bathroom and I've cleansed and toned my skin, I like to take a couple of cotton pads and apply the Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion directly onto my eyes. It gives a lovely cooling sensation and although you could achieve a much easier and cheaper effect with cucumbers, I prefer to reserve mine for salads and sandwiches. Containing ingredients such as witch hazel, aloe vera and cornflower, it really soothes the eyes (as the name would suggest) and relieves irritation. I love using this at night if I've had a particularly long and tiring day, also.
Next up is the Origins No Puffery Cooling Rollerball, which I both alternate or use in conjunction with the Liz Earle Eyebright Lotion, depending on how tired I feel. With its roll-on metal applicator and containing ingredients such as hoelen mushroom and yeast extract, this lovely little product helps to de-puff under eye bags and reduce dark circles and redness. I don't suffer too terribly from these issues, but the cooling effect of the rollerball will instantly make you feel more awake and refreshed to start the day ahead.
The Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream has been a favourite of mine for a good couple of years now and onto my second tub, I don't see myself straying from this any time soon. It contains ingredients such as caffeine and panax ginseng, which aid in relieving tired, puffy eyes and increasing the flow of circulation around the area. The product itself is somewhat shimmery, so it really helps to brighten under the eyes and illuminate the skin before applying makeup. I definitely notice a difference before and after applying this eye cream and it's an essential product needed to brighten up my eyes. My favourite eye cream by far.
When skincare isn't enough, there are a couple of staple makeup products I reach for to make my eyes appear more awake. There's something about mascara that just makes your eyes appear bigger, brighter and bolder and the one I always turn to is the Chanel Le Volume de Chanel Mascara. After trying out a sample of the mascara earlier this year, it instantly became holy grail and I feel no need to try any other mascara now that I have this beauty in my life. It coats the lashes with ease, making them long and fluttery, and while I never give myself enough time in the mornings before work to do anything else with my eyes, this is really all I need to make myself look somewhat presentable.
If I'm going out at night and going a bit heavier on the eye makeup, I like to use MAC's Eye Kohl in Fascinating on my waterline to add some brightness and make my eyes appear bigger. I have generally small eyes, which can tend to get lost amongst the eyeshadow and black eyeliner on my lash line, so the white eyeliner really helps to balance it all out and make them appear less red if I've been working all day. Never will I go back to the days of being a teen wearing black eyeliner on my waterline!
Obviously, the most important thing for bright, healthy and vibrant eyes is to get plenty of sleep and stay hydrated, but when life gets super busy or it simply isn't enough, these are the products I turn to. What are some of your favourite products to help brighten your eyes?
