Hey, I'm Tenneil

I live in Perth, Australia, and this is my creative outlet where I blog about beauty, my life and everything in between. I enjoy the '80s, the '90s and anything French, and some of my favourite things in life include music,  film, summer and a nice cup of tea.

YSL Shocking Mascara

YSL Shocking Mascara

From the days I used to buy all my makeup from Priceline to the current days where I can afford the higher end stuff, my holy grail mascara always remained Max Factor's False Lash Effect. It was cheap (as cheap as cosmetics come in Australia, anyway), accessible and most importantly, added both length and volume to my lashes while also evenly separating them without clumping. As a product that we tend to go through the most quickly and has the shortest life span, I've never been too keen on spending a lot of money on mascara, though I have tried higher end mascaras by Dior, YSL, Clinique, Givenchy and Benefit before.

A few years ago, I tried out YSL's Faux Cils Mascara and it was of the best high end mascaras I had used. I went back to my faithful Max Factor False Lash Effect, but in these past few months, I've found myself just not satisfied by its results anymore. I started wanting something more dramatic and of course, as a beauty junkie, you crave trying new products.

After reading Zoe's blog post entitled The Mascara Scrap Book: High End here, I went out and bought YSL's Shocking Mascara and now I'm a fan for life. It gives you everything you could ask for in a mascara, but it does in a way that's bigger and better than any other mascara I've tried - I suppose you could say shocking, no pun intended! It leaves my lashes long, but voluminous. They're evenly separated and coated with no little annoying lashes left uncoated. It adds the perfect amount of drama and you're left with long, fluttery eyelashes without the hassle of fake ones.

If you're like me and value sleep time over getting ready time in the mornings, this mascara is perfect. I keep my makeup natural and simple for work, but when I'm in a rush from continuously pressing the snooze button, I can get long, voluminous lashes in no time without having to apply coat after coat. Unlike other mascaras I've used, it also doesn't leave little black spots of mascara on my eyelids that tend to appear when I'm not wearing eyeshadow. Perhaps I apply mascara incorrectly, but I like to make sure my mascara is properly coated right from the base of my lashes.

Like all YSL cosmetics, the mascara is contained in that luxurious gold packaging and has that gorgeous fruity fragrance unique to the brand. It has 'Shocking' boldly written on the tube and it's one of those products so beautifully packaged, you'll want to keep it displayed on your dressing table. They're the best kinds of products, I think.

YSL Shocking mascara, welcome to my makeup collection. It was love at first application and you are here to stay. Yes, you are expensive , but as a product I use almost daily and completely enhances the face more than any other makeup product, you are worth it. Max Factor False Lash Effect, it's been a pleasure knowing you. Thank you for getting me through my poor university years and then some. Things, however, just haven't been the same lately and it's now time for me to move on.

As a huge fan of YSL mascaras now, I'm really eager to try the Babydoll Mascara. Have you tried any YSL mascaras? Which one is your favourite?
