Hey, I'm Tenneil

I live in Perth, Australia, and this is my creative outlet where I blog about beauty, my life and everything in between. I enjoy the '80s, the '90s and anything French, and some of my favourite things in life include music,  film, summer and a nice cup of tea.

Pretty in Pink

Pretty in Pink

Pretty In Pink is one of my all time favourite films from the 80s, which inspired me to create a post on some of my favourite pink products that make me feel... well, pretty. I'm not normally a huge lover of the colour pink as I feel some shades can look a little too Barbie/princess bubblegum pop on my darker complexion, but having said that, I have learnt to step out of my usual peachy/coral comfort zone and have since discovered some pretty pink products.

These days, I tend to gravitate more towards red or vampy dark lips, though I have recently rediscovered the nude lip look, which I loved when I first really got into makeup. I think the thing that put me off them was the fact that they're so hard to wear and can wash you out at times. On me, they show every line in my lips and tend to make them look horribly dry. However, with proper lip care and the right shade to suit your complexion, you can really wear them well. My two favourite nude lip colours are MAC's Kissable Lipcolour in Woo Me and Topshop's lipstick in Nevada. With a liquid lipstick type formula, it's such a shame the Kissable Lipcolours were limited edition as they're one of the best lip products I have ever used - they aren't at all sticky and have great lasting power. Topshop's Nevada lipstick is a little on the drying side, so this lip colour looks best when the lips are well exfoliated and hydrated. It's more of a darker nude pink, so it won't wash you out nor give that awful concealer lip look. My last pink lip colour of choice is Dior's Lip Glow Colour Reviver Balm. This super moisturising lip balm changes the colour of your lips for a kind of 'your lips, but better' look. On me, it turns my lips a rosy pink shade that's really subtle and the perfect product for natural or minimal makeup.

When it comes to cheeks, I'm a sucker for a coral and I always forget just how nice pink cheeks are when I decide to mix things up. MAC's Well Dressed blush was a blogger favourite a fair few years ago and it really is a gorgeous baby pink colour. On my medium to dark skintone, it gives a lovely light flush to the cheeks and the sheen throughout this satin finish blush really adds radiance and glow. Owning far too many MAC blushes, I have another favourite, which is The Perfect Cheek from the Marilyn Monroe Collection released last year. Described as a "neutral pink beige", I like to pair this blush when wearing any red or dark lip colours, so that the two don't clash. While I may have bought this for my love of Marilyn Monroe, I absolutely adore this cheek colour because as a neutral, it perfectly complements any eyeshadow or lip product. The newest addition to my blush collection has become one of my favourites, which is Benefit's Hervana. While Hervana has a hint of peachiness to it, it's mostly a bluish pink tone on my complexion. It gives a soft natural flush and I love pairing this with pink/purple lip products. I really do love my blush and I love a lot of it. I have pretty big cheeks and as I like to play them up, my favourite brush for blush application is the pink Real Techniques Blush Brush. This perfectly covers my cheek area and adds the colour flawlessly by blending it well into my skin. For my shimmery blushes, it can be a little too much, but for those other finishes, it's the perfect brush.

I don't own too many pink nail polishes, but the ones that I do are mostly neutral shades. OPI's Malaysian Mist is a light nude pink, which looks really lovely against my skintone. Essie's Eternal Optimist is very similar, though slightly darker and a little bit on the rosy side, I'd say. Then there's another Essie nail polish in Cascade Cool, which is completely the opposite of neutral and so not my colour at all. I don't know what compelled me to buy this colour, but I just fell in love with it, and while I don't think I'd ever wear a similar shade on my lips, this bright blue based pink with a hint of lilac is so fun and so playful.

Last, but not least, who doesn't love the amazing pink packaging of Soap & Glory products? My mum always compliments me and asks what I'm wearing when I use my Hand Maid hand sanitiser and in the words of Janice, Oh. My. Gawd. Sugar Crush Fresh & Foamy Body Wash. I am addicted to this stuff. In the shower, I'll be standing there sniffing my loofa for a good few minutes. It's just the most heavenly fruity scent and makes me so happy. As anything pretty in pink should make a girl feel.
