Best Beauty Products of 2013: Skincare & Haircare
Well, the time has finally come when yet another year is almost done and dusted and we reflect upon the last 365 days. In a beauty junkie's case, such as yours truly, I'll be looking back on those amazing products I've discovered in 2013. The past two years I've done this, I've always done a collective best of the year, but as I've progressively become more enthralled with the beauty world, I've had to split this up into two parts, my first being skincare and haircare and the second part being makeup, nails and fragrance.
It should come as no surprise that the majority of my 2013 favourites consists of those cult products everyone and their dog raves on about. First up is La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo, which really helps to combat blemishes. I do experience purging of the skin when I use this and get little whiteheads, but with consistent use, in no time, they're all cleared up and my skin feels and looks as good as new. The next three products, I featured in my Hydration heroes blog post, but as individual products, they have all had a huge impact on my skin. Hydraluron by Indeed Labs is one of those miracle workers that instantly replenishes hydration. I love using this in the day as I find it makes my foundation look better and overnight, I let this serum work its magic. Another product that works like magic at night is the Origins Drink-Up Intensive Overnight Mask. This stuff will quench thirsty skin and in the morning make it look fresh, radiant and supple. I use this once or twice a week, depending on how my skin is looking and it feels like such a such a treat. I could die from that yummy fruity smell alone. The Nude ProGenius Treatment Oil isn't the cheapest product, but it's so worth the investment. Just last week, my feel was feeling a little irritated, sore and red and in mixed in with my trusty Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair, my skin felt healthy and plump within two days. Whenever I use this, I go to bed looking like a grease ball (attractive image, I know), but when I wake up, the oil has seeped into my skin and feels amazing.
I recently talked about this product just two blog posts ago, but I had to mention it again because I'm so in love with it. Soap & Glory's Sugar Crush Fresh & Foamy Body Wash is one of the most heavenly smells on Earth and it's been especially lovely to use in the warm weather to freshen myself up with a shower before bed. I'm dying to get my hands on the Body Buttercream, but as I'm really into using body oils at the moment, I figure I can wait a while. Another cult product I decided to try out this year is the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant. I've put this this on paper cuts, mosquito bites and dry lips and it heals irritated skin wonderfully. For dry hands, I've taken to using the Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm. Aesop is a brand I've been meaning to check out for ages and I'm glad I've finally done so as it's such a lovely brand. Plus, they're Australian, which makes them even better! This hand cream is super moisturising, yet not greasy and has a gorgeous natural, fresh scent. Another brand from the Southern Hemisphere I recently got into is Antipodes from New Zealand. In need of a new exfoliator, I purchased the Reincarnation Pure Facial Exfoliator this year and it's like no exfoliator I've ever used. It's rich and creamy and the jojoba beads that act as the exfoliation are so fine, making it really gentle on the skin. Last, but not least in skincare, is the REN Radiance Perfecting Serum. After falling head over heels for the the Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask, I just needed to try this. Clearing the complexion and adding radiance, I love using this in the morning as that fruity smell is so uplifting and energising, though you can use it in the night too.
I wasn't too into haircare in 2013, though there are two standout products for me this year. The first one being Kérastase Ciment Thermique, which has worked wonders on my naturally dry, coarse hair. Not only does it strengthen hair, but it acts as a heat protectant from styling tools. I am always partial to a product that smells incredible too and Ciment Thermique has a lovely refreshing scent similar to cucumber. My final product is one you've all heard everyone rave on about in 2013 and that's of course the Oribe Dry Texturising Spray. I was after a product that would add volume to my roots and as I can't stand the smell of most dry shampoos, this sounded perfect to me. Needless to say, it's lived up to the hype, smells amazing and it has now become a part of my hair styling routine.
