When I found out IMATS was coming to Sydney during my time there, I must've had a mini freakout and bought a ticket to the event as soon as I could. I probably bought my ticket two months in advance and it was one of those things I was eagerly anticipating because I knew I'd feel like a kid in a candy store. IMATS Sydney was held over one weekend and I chose to just go on the first day. When I arrived, it was absolutely chaotic, hence why I didn't take any photos. It was just so crowded, I wouldn't have been able to get any decent photos. I didn't even know where to start because of the crowds everywhere, but I thought I'd start with something familiar, so I went to MAC. I was disappointed they didn't have Up The Amp lipstick and Greensmoke eyeshadow in the pan, but as you can see, I still came home with a few goodies. Dark Side and Lady Danger were two lipsticks I had been wanting for a while, so it was nice to cross them off the list. I'd also been after a dark brown matte eyeshadow to use in the crease, so I decided to get Smut. I thought that was all I would be buying from MAC, but when I went back to the counter a second time and was browsing the lipsticks, I fell in love with Vegas Volt, so I got that too, as well as the 212 brush.
As I had heard about Hakuhodo brushes before, I went to go take a look at them and oh my gosh, they are the softest things ever. They felt like silk on the skin and I knew I couldn't leave the counter without buying a couple. I bought the Round Powder brush to use with my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder, the Tapered Highlighter brush just because and the H3096 (I tried finding the actual name of the brush online, but it wasn't on neither the Japan and US websites) brush to use under the eyes. I thought it would be perfect for concealer as it's angled and super soft and fluffy for blending.
I actually thought I'd buy a lot more from IMATS, but due to the crowds, the Hakuhodo brushes being quite expensive and already owning a ridiculous amount of makeup, I was able to somewhat control myself. I barely got to see the Lime Crime, Inglot and Make Up Forever counters, which was disappointing as I wasn't really interested in the other brands. I really wish they had NARS there like they did at the London IMATS, but I suppose Sydney could never be as cool as London. There were a couple of Aussie YouTubers there representing Make Up Store, but I don't watch them as I find I prefer the English girls and find their style more me.
Overall, it was a fun day buying some discounted makeup, though if I had the opportunity to go again next year, I'm not sure that I would. I just found the brand selection very limited in Sydney and the crowds make it really hard to buy anything. If there were more brands attending, I would definitely consider it, but apart from that, it was one of those events I'm really glad I got to experience.
Have you ever been to IMATS before?
