Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light
I love a good beauty product rave, so of course, when the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders started making their way around the blogosphere, I naturally caved in. I initially had my eyes set on Ethereal Light simply because I thought a moonlit glow sounded really cool, but when I went swatching them at Mecca Cosmetica, I fell in love with Dim Light and could easily see why this seems to be the most popular choice amongst the six shades.
Having remained loyal to MAC's Mineralise Skinfinish Natural for a good few years, this product felt like I was literally dusting nothing onto my face in comparison. It's not to say that I think MAC Mineralise Skinfinishes are cakey by all means - I absolutely adore them - but the Ambient Lighting Powder is so finely milled and so subtle, you hardly notice or feel anything. I have to admit that even despite everyone confessing their love for this powder, I thought surely this couldn't possibly set my foundation all day - except that it did. I came home from my all day shift at work to see that my foundation hadn't worn off anywhere and I wasn't looking oily. I don't have any issues with using powder over my foundation, but for those of us who do, it's not surprising why this has so quickly become a favourite.
You won't find this powder giving you any extra coverage, but what it does provide is a beautiful subtle radiance that still somehow manages to set your foundation. Any blemishes or redness seem to blur and disappear, and you're left with a lovely healthy glow without looking shimmery. If subtlety is what you like, the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder is definitely worth investing in, offering that minimal 'no makeup makeup' look.
